Last Magnolia Down Under Guest Design Card & some challenges!

Oooo eck - I am so sorry I was watching the Eurovision Song Contest and I forgot to schedule a post. Nevermind... I'm here now, and big Congrats to Germany. I had my bet on them with the other half, he thought it was going to be Denmark and it was close there for a while...

Well its my last week guest designing for Magnolia Down Under Challenges and this week the theme is FLOWERS!
I've not gone MAD with flowers, just added some larger ones than I normally would and I have to say a big thanks to Donna for them, and the lace. She kindly sent me some at Easter and I've only just got round to using them - Thanks hun!
I've used Papermania's Rose Garden papers, and Core'dinations card stock for layering.
I coloured Tilda with Distress Inks and layered her dress. Not sure if the photos show you that.
I added some Glossy accent to her head band on the flowers to give them a little shimmer. I also glamour dusted her petticoat and the trim around her neck and sleeves.

Thanks so much for supporting my guest design time with Magnolia Down Under.. A HUGE thank you to Kellie for inviting me, and another thank you to the MDU Girls - You are an inspiration to us all who love our Maggies! Make sure you pop over to see what the team have created this week!

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:
Creative Card Crew: Pink and Green
Stampin' for the Weekend: Post Pals - Amelia Grace C
I would have been playing along with this challenge anyway, but having stepped down as owner and given the blog to Sandie and Jan who are doing a marvellous job I thought I'd better show my support. You have until this coming Friday to create a card for a child on the Post Pals site - a card or letter from yourselves would mean a lot to them.
Send a card to a child - Make them smile!

Rice Crispy Cake Recipe

~ Hello ~
Some of you have either left a comment or sent me an email asking for the recipe for the crispy cake I had on my desk on Wednesday.. I have to admit that the one I had on my desk was shop bought, however, I have made these in the past but only with Mars Bars but I guess you can just add Malteasters or anything you want so here it is!

1 Mars Bar
1 bag of Malteasters
1 or 2 bars of Melting Chocolate (Depending on how much you want to make)
Rice Crispies
Cup cake cases or a large tin if wanting to make squares

  • Cut your Mars Bar into smallish squares - doesn't matter if the nougat and the caramel is separated - all the better, crush some of the Malteasters and leave some whole
  • Melt your chocolate in a bowl over some boiling water on the hob
  • When its nearly all melted - add some of the Mars Bar and some of the Malteasters
  • Mix thoroughly allowing what you've added to melt a bit
  • When its nearly all melted, add the rest of the Malteasters and the Mars Bar squares
  • Add the choccie mix to a bowl suitable for mixing in
  • Add the crispies bit by bit - depending on if you want the chocolate thick, add less crispies, if you want the mix to be light - add more crispies
  • Either place them in cup cake cases, or line the bottom of a square or rectangle shaped tin/dish and leave to cool.
  • Once cool - place the tin in the fridge to set the choccie - makes it easier to get crispies out of the tin
  • After 5 - 10 mins, take out of fridge and turn upside down on clean surface and tap - usually it should come out no problem - Might take a bit of tapping.
  • Failing this - chuck in freezer for a few mins - not too long just enough to give a bigger chill than fridge and repeat.
  • IF this fails, attack the crispies with a spatular or knife and take out your frustration. This may not be aesthetically pleasing to the eye once finished as you will end up with mis shapped crispy cakes, but they will taste the same none the less - if anyone asks what happened - just call it 'ART!!'
  • Make sure you have a coffee/tea or a glass of cold milk to wash it down with - Delish!
Enjoy

Race for Life 2010 - Photos!

Some photos from Race for Life

How Cheeeeeesy is this grin lol
Martin Clunes is a supporter of Cancer Care Dorset and regulalry attends events like this. The lady who was taking my photos with him took it without him being ready bless him. He is a lovely man and wished me well with my fight. Last year when I did the run, I was holding Poppy in my arms when I asked him if he would sign my back, only he misheard me and was going to sign Poppy instead, thinking I'd said baby and not back hehe

From 2009
Martin Clunes chatting to me about wanting to sign my baby hehe, I can see Phil, my mum and Aunty shelagh in this photo, my mum with the white hair below the lady with sun glasses on is obscuring me.
This was taking just after he'd signed my back and my mums front sign, we were waiting for him to finish with the lady he was signing here to sign Phil's top.
He was such a gent. This year they gave him a tent to sign t-shirts and front and back signs - as I reckon it was a hot day for him last year. At least this year he had some shade :)

Sunday, 23 May 2010

Thank you to all my blogging friends who have sponsored me for today. We had a lovely day! It was between 23-25 degrees. Lots of people - over 2,500 were running, jogging or walking in the memories of loved ones, for those who were fighting, and for those who have beaten cancer. Amazing atmosphere.

Hugs to you all. I will try and get some photos up soon!

Hi There!!
Today I am doing the Race for Life, here is why...

As some of you may know, I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in December 2008. I had only given birth three months previously, so to have news like this was earth shattering.

I was scoped on the 1st December, diagnosed on the 9th and had surgery on the 17th to remove the tumour. I went home on the 21st December, to be with my family!

I was given news while in hospital, only a day out of surgery that I had 'tumours' in my liver, and that I would need scans and treatment. I then had to visit Basingstoke Hospital twice for specialised MRI scans to look in detail at my Liver and had to got to another hospital to have a PET scan to see if there were any other 'nasties' growing in my already battered and abused body!

After results came back and I was told that the Liver was not a problem at the moment and they 'keep an eye on it' as there was no evidence of Cancer, or anywhere else in the body, I underwent 6 months of Chemotherapy.

We celebrated in August 2009 my Daughters 1st Birthday and the finish of my Chemotherapy.

I have since had a scope and a CT scan and everything seems to be satisfactory of which I am hoping will stay that way!!

Sorry for this long post, but I just wanted to give you a bit of information on my story..

The photo is of me and my gorgeous Daughter only an hour after birth. She's been my inspiration and my little rock to getting me through some difficult times, as well as my loving boyfriend Stephen who I love very much, my parents, his parents and my close relatives and friends! Including a very special Aunty Shelagh and my Best Mate Charlene!

I hope you will sponsor me, or someone you know who is running/jogging or even walking the Race for Life this year, as the Tesco slogan says - 'Every Little Helps!'

If you are not already donating to the cause by sponsoring anyone, please use the link in my sidebar!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Magnolia Down Under - Guest Design Week 4!

Its my fourth week of guest designing for Magnolia Down Under and I'm so sad cos after this challenge I will only have one more to show you for next week and my Month of being a guest will be up. But, aaaah. Happy days and challenges these have been while I've been making cards and posting them for you!

So HUGE thank yous to Kellie and the girls at MDU!

This week, the Magnolia Down Under girls would like to see shaped cards. Circles, rectangles, diamonds, tents, side steppers – choice is yours!

I’ve gone for a Tent Card and even though I’ve had this Edwin since the start of the new year, I’ve never INKED him before now...SHOCKING!
Please forgive the funny bends in the card, I took the photo without letting it all dry, but now its all nice and straight looking, no wavy lines lol
I used VersaFine Black Onyx to stamp him out and mask him with the swing, then coloured him with distress inks, used K&Co papers, added some raffia and some buttons. I didn’t put a sentiment on as I wasn’t sure what kinda occasion I was going to use him for. Turns out I have him on my shelf – Looking down on me – Keeping me company while he swings away happily!
Here is a little close up of him!

I am entering this card in to the following challenges

Stamp Something - Two of something. I used two magnolia images - Edwin and his Swing
&
ABC Challenge - Unused Stash - Well having not inked up Edwin counts!

Thanks for visiting.
Please pop along to Magnolia Down Under and check out the fabulous work the team have come up with! Also – if you can – put a couple of hours aside and join in with the challenge! The girls would love to see your creations.

La-La Land Crafts - Happy Maya

Its been a while since I inked up a La-La Land Crafts stamp - and I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed colouring in Happy Maya - If you've not heard of Lala Land Crafts - click here to visit the challenge blog and here to visit the store!

I was a guest designer for La-La Land Crafts a while back and I am feeling so guilty for not inking up these beauties since leaving there. The team has changed over time, but the cards just keep getting better and better, as do all the stamp designs!

Here is my card - The theme this week is 'Birthdays!'
I have coloured Happy Maya in distress inks and then used the Circle Nesties and Scalloped Circle Nesties to layer her on.
Simple black and white card to match her spots and some white organza ribbon with a black ribbon with white stitch to run on top.
The sentiment is computer generated and printed straight onto the card base.

Thank you for visiting me and Maya today!

Mojo Monday + Cards for Men

I've made my second of my three Fathers Day cards.
The bear is from Lili of the Valley and is one of the new stamps in the Busy Bear release
He is called 'Just One More' and can be found here!
Using my new papers by Dovecraft/Trimcraft I've layered this card in line with Mojo Monday's Sketch this week.
I'm also entering this card into Cards for Men - Its my first time entering over there and this week the theme is 'Outdoors'. Well as BBQ's are generally cooked outdoors, I think this card fits the challenge.

I coloured my bear with Distress Inks, added grass with copics.
Sentiment is computer generated.
Ribbon was off a top I bought at the weekend and the button from my stash.

Thanks for popping by

Just for Fun!

I bought a bead kit yesterday when I was out shopping with a friend of mine.

There were a few to choose from, but I ended up with the bear. I could of had a frog, rabbit, chick, dog or cat, oh and there was a panda, so sweet.

So here he is. He's taken me about 2 and a half hours. I started him late last night and kept dropping beads due to fatigue, but promptly finished him this morning.

Sweet huh?
