Criss Cross Card Tutorial

To make your own Criss Cross Pocket card you will need:

Choice of coloured A3 Card
Choice of coordinating papers (6x6)
Kenny K Image of choice (Club Kid)
Colouring medium (Copics)
Scissors/Glue/DST/Ruler/Pencil
Flowers/embellishments
Scoreboard and Score Tool
Guillotine

Start off by scoring your card. Now my way of doing this, means you do not have to attach two pieces of card together or make a smaller card so you can fit the whole thing together. My way is a bit of a cheat and you will see why in a minute.

Score your card to the size you want. My cards are usually around 15cm (just under). I will be scoring my card to 148mm.
You will notice once you score one side and the back of the card that the far side fold will be considerably shorter - Dont Panic! This is hidden when you start to stick down your card.
Take the pattered card of your choice for which you are going to place as your back ground inside of the pocket and cut it down. My card base measures 148mm x 148mm so I am cutting my patterned paper to 143mm squared to give a border when I stick it down.
Take the right hand flap and fold it over so its covering the middle patterned paper, and measure from the top right corner to the left bottom corner of the patterned base. Drawing a line with a ruler (so you can cut with Guillotine in a moment)
Then do the same for the other flap from the inner right corner to the outer bottom left.
Once you are happy that these lines are straight, cut them and they should look like this.
Take some double sided tape and run along the bottom of the centre square and stick down the flap with the bit missing....

Take the patterned paper you wish to put on the front two triangular folds and cut them down to the same size as your did for the middle panel. Once you have done this, half the paper diagonally and you should have two exact sized triangles for the folding panels.
Glue the first Right hand triangle onto the panel, once dry, place some double sided sticky along the bottom edge, This is so the Left folding panel can sit nice and snug, you will also need to glue this panel, so have some ready. here is a photo of where you should place the DST and the Glue.
Glue the second patterned paper triangle in place.

For your insert, you will need to cut the card stock down. For my card, I've gone 140mm x 135mm which means it sits snug inside the pocket. I'm cutting the patterned paper 136mm x 131mm so I have a border around the edge again. Like this:

Now you have the component of your pocket and your insert, all you have to do is decorate it, so colour your image if you've not already done so and add those flowers, trinkets, charms, ribbons and any embellishment you can think of to make it special and your own!

Colouring with Distress Inks - Tutorial

I put tutorial in the title, but this is basically how I colour my images.

First off you will need
Inks
Aqua Pen
Ink Pad
Stamp of choice
Card Stock of choice

First off stamp your image, I've used Versa Fine Black Onyx and 300gsm Watercolour paper

I'm using Tea Dye for her skin - so load the tip of the brush with the ink.
Go around the outline of her face

Then blend in working your way to the middle
Continue in the same way, loading the tip and outlining the areas that need to be coloured
Now I'm going to use Peeled Paint for her clothes - mainly her sleeves/top, dress and socks.

Again just outlining and then blending to the middle using water to bleed the colour lighter.
When you've finished and you want to add more shadow, wait till it is dry, wet, and then add the ink to add more depth
Here I've used Mustard Seed for her pinny

Here I've used the same technique, adding colour around the outline and blending to the middle.
Also coloured her shoes.

For the peaches I have used Dried Marigold and added some Tattered Rose

For the basket I have used Walnut Stain, and just blended to the middle

Tilda's Hair has been coloured using Walnut Stain, Black Soot and Antique Linen

Lastly I added some Tattered Rose to her cheeks, not sure if shows up though.

Finish

I have used in total - 8 inks
Tattered Rose, Tea Dye, Peeled Paint, Mustard Seed, Walnut Stain, Antique Linen, Black soot and Dried Marigold

Thank you for popping by, any comment would be greatly appreciated!

Tutorial on Pocket Card

As I said in my Stampin' for the Weekend post, I'd do a little tutorial for you, on how I made my card. Unfortunately, I had the bright idea to do the tutorial AFTER I had finished my card, so I've made another, in a step by step process, taking photo's (Bad ones I might add) along the way.
Have fun...!

First you will need:
12 x 12 inches of double sided card stock
Craft knife and mat
Double sided sticky tape or fast drying glue

First take your 12 x 12 card stock and trim just a few mm from each end.

Fold your card stock in half, then turn it over and fold the other direction so your card stock has four sections. You should have a mountain and a valley fold. One for each side.

Place the card stock infront of you, and take your craft knife and cutting from the edge of the fold on the left hand side, cut along to the centre.

Leaving the card this way, take the bottom right corner and fold to the centre.

Again, leaving the card this way, take the bottom left corner and leaving approx 2cm or 2.5cm from the cut edge and also the bottom edge, fold to make a smaller triangle fold than the one that is opposite.

Once you have made this smaller triangle fold, fold it in on itself, so that it is tucked underneith.

You are now ready to fold your card.

Take the quarter section that you have just folded the triangle underneith itself and bring across to the opposite folded triangle. Then taking that, fold it upwards.

You should now be able to see where your pockets are going to be!

Fold the single quarter left over on the left hand side under itself to make the back of the card.
The above picture should look like your nearly finished pocket card!

Take some double sided sticky tape or fast drying glue and place a line along the bottom and side of the triangle. Fold upwards to secure.

Take another piece of double sided tape and place along the egde of the card, and then fold up the pockets. If you want to, where the blue is on my card on the opposite edge of the double sided tape is a small 2cm gap. You can stick this down with double sided tape or glue to make the edge look neater. If you are planning on putting larger items in this pocket which aren't heavy, it may be an idea to leave it unstuck.

This should ideally look like your finished card!
Its ready for decorating :o)

I hope I've made these steps simple enough for your to understand. If not email me and I'l try and help you out if you went wrong! (which I dont think you will, cos you crafters are an intelliegent lot!
